 Entusiasmando a jóvenes latinos para la universidad
Por Michel Leidermann Funcionarios de la Universidad de Arkansas en Fayetteville compartieron con los alumnos de ESL (inglés como segundo idioma) de la escuela Hall High en Little Rock, dándoles a conocer las oportunidades de becas que existen en Arkansas para que puedan seguir estudiando en alguna universidad del estado después de graduarse de la secundaria. Explicando los beneficios de una carrera universitaria estuvieron Luis Fernando Restrepo, Vice Rector y director de la oficina de avance académico de latinos; Rey Hernández especialista en instrucción educativa; y Rafael García-Arciga de la oficina de reclutamiento. Estuvieron acompañados por Marie Helena de Ávila del Departamento de Educación Profesional de Arkansas y de la Dra. Leslie Purdy-Hoyt, coordinadora del programa ESL en Hall High. La escuela Hall High tiene un 14% de alumnos latinos y 190 de ellos están en los cursos de ESL. |

EL LATINO is a weekly Spanish newspaper serving the Hispanic/Latino community in Central Arkansas. EL LATINO was founded in March 2001, with the mission to educate, assist, and inform the Spanish speaking people of Central Arkansas that could not otherwise understand information released only in English. The newspaper covers the economy, labor, education, immigration, sports, local community and social events, and conducts interviews with Hispanic/Latino residents. The EL LATINO Website offers daily local, national and international (focused mainly on Mexico and Latin America) news updated every 15 minutes by the EFE Spanish Language News Agency. EL LATINO also broadcasts in Spanish monthly on the Arkansas Education Television Network (AETN) TV and daily on radio KABF 88.3 FM.
